In 2026 and beyond, your greatest advantage may not be speed or skill, but presence. Presence in leadership means being physically, emotionally, and spiritually available, and it involves attentive listening and empathetic engagement with others. Many feel that AI is evolving faster than they can adapt to it.

Let me start by saying, “You are not behind; you are evolving.” Leaders, do not let swift developments, such as AI, distract you from your purpose. AI can support you, but it should not replace you. Human connectivity is essential. It must remain your focus, regardless of what the market or trends are predicting. Effective leadership is not about perfection. It is about being present, genuine, and approachable. Only humans can personify these qualities.
Staying Human in a High- Tech World
To build up these connections, regularly check in with those you lead, whether family, colleagues, or teams. Invite straightforward conversations in safe environments. Consider incorporating frequent one-on-one or small-group meetings, or casual family table talks, to provide individuals with space to share their thoughts and concerns. Ask questions with no hidden agenda, like "What are your current challenges?" “Is there a collaboration or connection this week that you appreciated or that made a difference?” or "How can I support you better?" to guide these discussions. These practices ensure your leadership remains centered on human interaction, even as technology advances.
Consider a supervisor who chooses to attend a team meeting in person rather than sending a digital assistant. In doing so, being physically present allows the manager to gauge the environment, notice a team member who seems disengaged, and address their concerns in real time. This subtle effort of presence fostered trust and strengthened team morale, something AI could not achieve on its own. Ultimately, such experiences remind us of the unmatched value of human presence in leadership. For leaders who must oversee remotely, similar engagement principles can be applied. Use video calls to create a sense of presence previously mentioned, allowing you to see emotional cues and respond empathetically or as needed. Establish regular virtual check-ins and create open communication channels to mimic the benefits of in-person interaction as closely as possible.

The Leadership Advantage
Though AI offers benefits such as automation, increased productivity, data analysis, and creative applications. Complete reliance on AI should never be the goal. Human-centered workflows should remain essential. The ability to dream, discern, judge, and create is uniquely human. Many have experienced frustration when AI assistants fail to understand urgency or when automated systems lack the care and understanding only people can provide. These experiences highlight the importance of maintaining a human element.
AI can process information, but it can’t build trust.
AI can generate content, but it can’t create a sense of belonging.
AI can deliver answers, but it will never replace human connection or the Holy Spirit.
Remember, true wisdom, knowledge, and understanding come from God alone. Dominion is given to His creation that bears His image, and not to anything made by the creation. This concept can also align with people across non-religious environments. When we lead with integrity and a dedication to real relational connections, these values can inspire others in faith-centered and civic organizations, developing environments where everyone feels valued, seen, and heard.

AI Is Evolving—So Should Our Humanity
Again, this post is not to bash advanced technologies but to remind us that devices and technological systems cannot be fruitful and multiply in the context originally instituted in Genesis. You are producers, and your life is like a tree of evidence of the thought seeds, word seeds, and action seeds that you have cultivated.
Let AI-powered systems complement you, and showcase how technology supports—not replaces—the strengths and abilities of those within your leadership metronome. Protect the human moments that matter. Maintain relationships even as workflows become more automated. And reinforce that value lies in authenticity, creativity, connection, and character.
Great leaders set the tone of the environment. You can stay human in a high-tech world. A calm and grounded leader creates a supportive atmosphere. The future belongs to leaders who use technology without losing themselves, knowing that the most vital upgrade is human connection.
A Leadership Pondering Moment
